Exchange visits took place between local actors from the Dominican Republic and Chile. The aim of these exchanges was to provide local actors with an opportunity for knowledge exchange and mutual learning in the area of CBDRM. Sharing practices and networking are important tools for knowledge exchange, but there is often a stronger engagement and a deeper commitment to action when there is a strong relationship between organisations and individuals.

Hosted by Ciudad Alternativa and Servicio Social de Iglesias Dominicana, this exchange took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The participants from Chile presented their case studies for mutual learning, but the majority of the exchange was focused on the Dominican Republic site visit case, which focused on community empowerment and the need for all-of-society approaches to DRR and multi-stakeholder collaboration to influence policy and practice. Participants discussed the sustainability and institutionalisation of this project and identified the need to promote political dialogue between local authorities and families living in at-risk areas.
